Today’s post is all about music. Music in general is a big part of my life. Whether it’s listening, writing, recommending or sharing, I’m always up for learning about new music or new techniques. Personally I like to write music on my guitar and combine lyrics, I find it’s a great outlet for any troubling thoughts or feelings I want to tackle. Today I’m going to recommend some of my favourite music.

As I’m writing this post, I’m listening to a playlist put together by the one and only Will Smith. If you’re wanting to listen to some music to have on in the background, without distracting lyrics (I know lyrics can distract me) then why not give this a listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA56B4JyTgI

I find this playlist especially useful for night time, or when working on a something productive, maybe that is art we look at, artistic words we read (for example poetry), work/study, gardening...etc etc, it could be anything!

As there is literally so much music out there to focus on, in this post I’m going to specifically be recommending singer/songwriter/acoustic/folk, basically some of my favourite music to relax to. So apologies if it’s not your cup of tea however, I will hopefully be able to contribute some different genres at a later date, with a little support from others. You may already know some of these although, I am hoping some of them are new to you.

Firstly, here is a live version of a song called “The Stable Song” by Gregory Alan Isakov. I could of easily picked any of this man’s songs, if you enjoy this one then go check out his studio albums. He’s a brilliant musician live and in the studio. Also his band member Steve is a great banjo player!

Secondly, someone you may of heard of is Bon Iver. He came to the front of popularity with his song “Skinny Love”. Today I’m recommending a personal favourite of his. Again, this performance is a live one, as I find it truly captures the essence of the song. Of course, feel free to check out studio versions and other songs – I would suggest starting with the Bon Iver – Bon Iver album to begin with.

Third on the list is an artist called The Tallest Man On Earth, I’ve chosen one of his slower songs. There are a lot of songs to listen to. His finger picking style of guitar is phenomenal and his live performance is very strong. Some go to songs are: “Thrown Right At Me”, “Love Is All”, “Time Of The Blue” and “Sagres”

Fionn Regan is a very inspirational song writer. This particular song is very catchy, as are a lot of his songs. He is very mellow and a personal hero of mine. Like most of the artists listed, you can start anywhere with their music as it’s all brilliant. Below, linked, is “Riverside Heights”.

A new song titled “Nothings Gonna Happen” really caught my attention at the end of last year. The Staves are a trio of sisters who harmonise better than anyone else I’ve ever listened to. They’re fabulous musicians and this song show cases that.

And finally one more, I could honestly go on forever! This musician, Idiot Wind, performs under another name – Amanda Bergman, both are excellent examples of beautiful song writing. The song/clip I’ve chosen is visually incredible, as well as musically, there are a couple of songs in one video. Idiot Wind/Amanda Bergman is a pianist/vocalist/songwriter, one you don’t want to miss! I’ve also added “Canary Bird” because I love it.

Hopefully you enjoy,

Chris.
