Hello and welcome to the first blog post here from The Early Intervention Team, we’re new to blogging however, we thought we would have a go at sharing some tips for managing time and wellbeing during the confusing times ahead. In mentioning confusing times, we are of course referring to the current climate and outbreak of Covid-19. It’s been advised that we avoid face to face contact and remain in our homes.
For these reasons we have decided to offer our blog for your viewing. The aim and purpose of this blog is to provide some guidance. Our wellbeing is very important and for many of us, being out and about is key to taking care of our wellbeing. To support remaining at home and also maintaining our wellbeing, we are pulling resources together to create what we hope, is a useful bunch of insights into practising self-care, to better ourselves psychically and mentally.
On a side note, it’s important to recognise that we are not experts. We are researching as we go along and will be pulling only the most reliable information from other sources. If you are requiring expert advice it’s probably a good idea to seek out a professional.
We hope to deliver many different topics during the course of our blog, some of which, in no particular order, may include:
- Recipes for healthy eating made easy
- Exercise at home
- Relaxing music/recommendations
- Motivational quotes (“It ain’t about how hard you hit!” – Rocky)
- Meditation
- Yoga
- Mindfulness
- Movie and game reviews
- Artistic creativity
So, having said all that, what can we do to occupy our time and remain healthy? Let’s get into it with the first post – Fuelling For Exercise At Home.
Fuelling For Exercise At Home
Firstly, you may be asking, what is wellbeing? According to the dictionary, wellbeing is classed as “The state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy”. Other websites offer more definitions and discuss the topic but, they all come to the same conclusion, that having good wellbeing is about feeling well.
To feel well, nutrition is always going to be a biggie. It’s been well drilled into us that healthy eating supports healthy mind and body and there are many resources that agree. For our home exercise fuel, we’re going to discuss smoothies.
Specifically we’re going to look at two different smoothies, the link to the entire catalogue of recipes will be linked below, these are just a couple we like the look and sound of. The following images and descriptions are taken from the BBC Good Food website.
First up is the Strawberry Smoothie. A good place to start it seems when entering the realm of smoothie making. Simplistic, easy to make and little ingredients required.
“Get your fruit fix with our strawberry smoothie made with banana and orange juice. It’s free from diary so it’s vegan too – making it a great start to anyone’s day”
All you need to do is blitz the ingredients in a blender until smooth, then pour into a glass.

Ingredients
- 10 strawberries, approx. 175g
- 1 small banana
- 100ml of orange juice
Secondly
The Two Minute Breakfast Smoothie. “whizz up a low-fat breakfast smoothie in no time. Use banana with other soft fruits, plus honey for a little sweetness and oats for slow-release fuel”.

Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp of porridge oats
- 80g of soft fruit (whatever you have – strawberries, blueberries and mango all work well)
- 150ml milk
- 1tsp honey
- 1tsp vanilla extract
Following On
Now that we’ve had our smoothie (would recommend waiting at least half an hour before beginning exercise) it’s time to work out. We want the recommended exercises to be accessible for everyone, so we've included beginners work outs as well as intermediate so there is something for all abilities. (Quick tip – If you haven’t managed to make a smoothie for whatever reason, a banana before exercise is perfect for quick release energy).
After a lot of trawling through websites and ruling out a lot of exercises due to them requiring equipment, it seems the best link out there for everyone is “The Body Coach TV” on YouTube. There is something on there for everyone, so feel free to have a search through yourself. If you don’t fancy searching, we’ve picked out a video that doesn’t require anything except you and a little bit of space. This is a beginner’s workout and seems like a good place to start. Link below.
And that concludes today’s blog post. We hope you’ve found it worthwhile and we look forward to bringing more to your tables.
P.S Here is the BBC’s smoothie link:
Signing off for now, stayed tuned for blogs from other authors.
